21.02.2021 Oil spills

Which ship spilled the oil in the Mediterranean is a mystery that the authorities are trying to figure out. The drenched with tar shoreline will take months or even years to clean. That is why thousands of volunteers are grouping up on the Israel’s beaches to help out with this process. Even the military is trying to get everything back to the way it was. Because of the icy weather it was extremely hard to notice it at sea so authorities didn’t have a way to deal with it before it reached the shores. The authorities are using satellite images and modeling of wave movement to find the suspect. In my opinion the person responsible for this mess should be legally punished for what he did. Even though it could have been an accident, this has scared the sea. It has killed a lot of sea animals. It will also impact Israel’s economy because the Mediterranean Sea is a popular

14.02.2021 US weather

The north west part of USA covered in snow is facing a big problem right now. A lot of people are stranded at home without a source of electricity. Even though the weather is already treacherous, there is said to be more snow fall through out the week. The authorities are bringing help from different states in order to restore power as soon as possible. In Oregon, the hardest hit state, the governor declared a state of emergency. This awful weather also poses a huge threat to the homeless community. Volunteers and shelter staff are trying their best to help them out. Honestly, I think the US is facing a big problem at the moment. I am sure they will recover from this unfortunate event but it will still leave a big impact on the economy and society. From my experience most states are not so well prepared to deal with this kind of weather but from what I discovered the country takes the safety of citizens very seriously.    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/14/us-st...

07.02.2021 African activist

Mwazulu Diyabanza is an African activist known for leaving museums with his hands full. What I mean is that he is basically stealing African artifacts from European Countries that colonized Africa. They also visit galleries, private collections and auctions. His mission is to recover works of culture and art that belonged to African countries. He calls his doings “active diplomacy”. After trying to steal from the Quai Branly museum in France he was held in custody for 3 days and then fined a thousand euro by the judge. This hasn’t stopped him so he visited Marseille and Netherlands. Although covid-19 happened, his group is still planning to visit countries like Spain, Portugal, Germany when museums open back up. He created the Front Multicultural Anti Spoliation (FMAS). This organization claims to reunite people all around the world with their robbed heritage. He is hoping that museums around Europe return what does not belong to them.

My goal for the semester

This semester I would like to improve my range of vocabulary and knowledge about various topics in English. In order to accomplish that I would watch interesting YouTube channels like "crash course", "Vsauce" or "Smarter every day". Another thing I would like to improve is my knowledge of British English. I think the best way to do that is to listen to British native speakers, watch British YouTube channels, British movies or read thing written by British autors. To practice my speaking I will try to get in touch with my old friends from aboard every now or then.
